Time for October Fest!
As we decided at the last dinner, the date for the October
dinner will be a Saturday, the 17th of October. It will be held at our home
(Dyer's) at 13340 W. Saddlebow Drive in Reno and we would like to start at 4:00
so that we may enjoy cocktails and appetizers on the patio, as the weather is
getting cooler. Then we can move indoors if necessary for a buffet dinner.
Tables will be set indoors but outdoor dining is available for those dressed
warmly enough. The menu is not finalized yet, but there will be token German
fare included. Please bring wine or beer of your choice. Coffee, water and soft
drinks will be provided.
Here's a rough draft of the menu:
Appetizers
Salad
BBQ ribs
Sauerkraut or sauerbraten, or both with shredded pork
Another vegetable (sauerkraut is a vegetable you know)
Dinner rolls
Strudel with ice cream
I am working at keeping price at $20 a person (or less).
Please RSVP to Kathy Dyer at kmdyer@mac.com

Charity Show N' Shine
October 24th
Good evening Mike and Larry,
My name is Melissa Nicholas and it is my pleasure to invite you and the Reno
Jaguar Club to our Charity Show N' Shine to be held at Gilson Autobody on
Saturday Oct. 24, 2009. Gilson Autobody, The Nevada Department of Public
Safety and the Sierra Nevada Chapters of Audi, BMW, MINI and Porsche have
teamed up and are holding a car show to benefit the Spanish Springs High
School Marching Band. The band has been selected to perform at Disney Land
in April and is in need of funding to send the 100 member band to Anaheim,
CA. The entrance fee to the event is only $20/car and includes one lunch
(additional lunches can be purchased). There will be raffle prizes, a silent
auction and trophies will be awarded to the participant winners. This event
is not only a great way to support our community but a very fun and exciting
time and it provides an excellent opportunity to meet other car enthusiasts
from the area.
Myself as well as the event committee would greatly appreciate your clubs
support in attending this event. If you would like myself or one of the
event committee members to present the show n' shine information at your
club dinner this Friday evening please let me know and we would be happy to
do so. Also, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or to
RSVP for the event.
Thank you,
Melissa Nicholas

Western States Announcement
Hello Club Editors and some
Presidents:
I am attaching an article about Western States. It explains why we have it
during the week. Most of you have said you send out a newsletter
periodically. I hope you can just drop this in. It's a Word 3 document. Some
of you do an email broadcast. If this isn't too long, that would be fine
too. If I am sending this to the wrong person, could you just forward it to
the correct person and let me know who that is so that I can correct my
email broadcast list. I am kind of under the gun this month because I will
be having a hip replacement Sept 30th. I just wanted to get this out before
I am out of commission for awhile. I will try to customize communication to
better serve each club in future contacts.
Thanks for helping us get the publicity out.
WESTERN STATES
PUBLICITY IS OUT
Each Jaguar club
president in the Western States has been mailed copies of
the brochure describing the Western States Meet in Santa
Maria. Registration forms can be downloaded from the
website:
www.jagswestmeet.com.
The Jaguar Owners Club of Los Angeles, the host club, wants
everyone to have the information in time to register at the
reduced rate by December 15th. Early
registration will help us greatly in our planning
Several members of the Los Angeles club saw the brochure at
our recent concours and expressed disappointment that they
cannot get away for such an event during the week. This has
always been a problem so an explanation is in order as to
why Western States Meets are held during the week. First,
room rates and other expenses are significantly less during
the week. For instance, rental of the room at Pelican
Point, where we will have dinner Wednesday night, is $700.
That same room on the weekend is $1,500. Also
availability of any facility we want is much better during
the week. This is a Meet, not just a concours, so more
than one day is needed in order to hold a JCNA-sanctioned
concours, rally and slalom. Then, to enjoy the area
you have traveled so far to visit, Western States always
works in some vacation-type activities such as our trip to
Hearst Castle. We also consider the fact that this is a
Western States Meet, meaning that people will be coming long
distances. Three clubs in Canada are invited, and we
have heard from people in Texas that they will be
caravanning to Santa Maria. This is at least a two-day
trip for many participants. So there isn’t any way that we
can cram the events plus travel into a long weekend, even if
we paid higher costs and charged a higher registration fee.
Our
hope is that participants will come for the entire Meet, and
with advanced planning, people who have commitments during
the week, like work or volunteer activities, will be able to
take time off. Plan ahead and take a few vacation
days. All of us who are working so hard to put on a full and
memorable Meet, as well as our sponsors, hope that you can
come and enjoy our full lineup of activities. There is
enough flexibility in the schedule so that you can fit in
any special interests you have while in the area. But part
of the fun of these Meets is being with people from various
Jaguar clubs from other areas and making new friends. That’s
key to why the Western States Meet has been popular for more
than four decades.
