Mike:
Good afternoon. I finally got some shots of the MK IX. Please e-mail me
with any questions you might have. The car is a 1961, and I have all
documentation for the life of the car. I am the third owner, and have
owned it since 1980. It has lived most of it's life in a garage and is
quite remarkably preserved. I started restoring the car in 1992, and
have all of the hard work done. I had planned on making it a driver, so
not everything is done to concours. The underside of the car is detailed
very nicely, but I couldn't get that low to take any pictures. The
mileage is 48,636 and this is the actual mileage. The head was redone
when I bought the car, but the lower end of the engine was fine and the
car ran beautifully. I am certain that by now, it will need the carbs
cleaned, etc., but it has no problems that I am aware of, except the
leak in the transmission. I took it to Denver Jaguar to have it resealed
and it was worse when I got it back. The car looks bare without the
chrome trim, but I have everything for it, either excellent original or
rechromed. As you can see by the photo of the front of the car, the
bumpers are still wrapped in the paper as they came from the chrome
shop. The overrides are rechromed also. Basically, all that needs to be
done is fitting the trim and the upholstery. I have new door panels
(from Bassett's) for all four doors, but they are in blue, but could be
dyed red. The original interior was blue, and I was going to keep it
that way. At one time, my in-laws were going to buy the car and they
wanted a red interior, so I had the seats done in red Connelly leather,
and the red Wilton carpet is included with the car. I also have the new
wool material for the headliner (the original headliner is still in the
car). The windshield is new, and I have new rubber seals for almost
everything. It is setting on new Lester 6.50X16 Wide Whites also. I have
lots of extra parts that go with the car, and I do have a fairly
complete parts car that would be included if you want it. Enjoy, and let
me know what you think. Also, no rust! I didn't photograph all of the
seats because I have them wrapped in dry storage. I did unwrap the
bottom of the rear seat so you could see the quality of the upholstery
job and the color. They are a deeper red than shows in the pictures and
they are excellent.
Best regards,
Dave McFarland
