February 16, 2006 La Vecchia, Reno The February dinner was somewhat of a worry this year. The weather report kept getting more and more grim as the hours neared. However this did not dissuade the hardy RJC members for showing up in force. Of course our “cats” did not want to get wet or dirty so many stayed home nice and dry in their comfortable garages. Twenty-seven members came, as did five guests for a total of 32 people. We were quite cozy in the little room that La Vecchia provided. The room was romantically decorated with a Valentine’s theme with candles and party favor bags for each guest that had homemade fudge in them made by Kathy Glass & me. The room was not set up the way I requested but we managed to have a delicious dinner anyway. Hey, we are a united RJC family so being a little cramped didn’t phase us too much. It was wonderful having so many guests that night. Dave Minedew sponsored Reggie Dunbar and her two friends, Gary and Diane and Terry Mitchell sponsored Sharon & Jack Boston. As according to our new recruitment policy all got a free drink of their choice. At our January dinner/meeting it was requested that some members volunteer to introduce their car(s) to the rest of the club. They are to explain what Jaguar(s) they own and anything they have done to it or just fun stories about trips, adventures that they may have had with it. Iain Buxton was our first to volunteer. He will be a tough act to follow! He did a fabulous power point presentation on his love affair with Winston, his 1966 S-Type Saloon. The presentation started out with a few minor computer problems but with the help of Rich Wilder, they got the show up and running. Thank you Iain for the wonderful presentation! Please, everyone, this was way above the call of duty. If you could just bring in a photo of your car and some information about it would be just fine as well. When the weather turns nicer we will be able to go out into the parking lot and meet your car in person. Rich Wilder and Bob Melrose have volunteered to introduce their cars at the next dinner/meeting. The meeting part of this dinner/meeting was cut short due to the weather and length of the wonderful presentation. The new and approved, “Tag-A-Jag” postcards, were distributed and the members were reminded that the person who sponsors the most new members by June will receive a free dinner. A trip to Disneyland in October was proposed. The idea was to travel from Reno to Los Angeles and pick up members from other clubs along the way making for a long caravan of Jaguars and to encourage communications with the other clubs. I also want to thank Wendy Buxton for bringing in the
sample “ cat tail”. There is a little story here. The ladies got
together last year on our trip to Volcano, California and decided that we
needed some sort of item to let the other drivers on the road know that we
were a “caravan”. Wendy Buxton came up with the idea of having a “cat
tail” sticking out of our cars boots. She made a sample and it is
really cute. We may even decide to market them to the other Jag clubs.
Thank you Wendy for bringing it to the meeting. Thanks to all of you who braved the weather. I take it that everyone made it home safe and sound since I have not heard otherwise.
