President Patti Wilder reviewed the highlights of the Jag Club’s activities
during 2005. She introduced the 2005 board and they each were given
plaques for their past service. On behalf of the members of the club,
Past President Gerard Garra gave a gift certificate, on behalf of the Club,
to Patti and Rich Wilder for their outstanding contributions during 2005.
New officers for 2006 were introduced, and Secretary, Sunny Minedew, summarized the minutes of their first meeting. As a follow up, several topics were brought to the members in attendance for input. Speakers for future meetings: No new speakers were suggested. Tech Sessions: Don Johnson and Mike Johnson both volunteered to lead a session, and Cathy Dyer said she would help coordinate a potluck and social after a session.. Iain Buxton said he could donate an XK motor, which members could rebuild in stages, during several tech sessions. Many members expressed an interest in this. Mike Johnson noted that a similar project was done around 10 years ago, and the motor was auctioned off. A possibility for auctioning might be on E-bay. In a separate discussion, it was proposed that for future dinners at restaurants, a section could be roped off for safe parking of Jag cars, and it would be an opportunity for members to walk around and see the cars before dinner. Another suggestion was made to display cars at an A & W Drive In on Wednesday nights. In a follow up to a suggestion proposed by the President, the following members have volunteered to talk about their cars at the next dinner meeting: Sam Dibitanto, John Wittrig, Iain Buxton and Mike Johnson. A description of their cars, stories, competitions and any other tidbits they are willing to share will be provided at the February meeting. Increasing the Club size: The member who Tags the Most Jags every quarter will receive a free dinner. Sam Dibitanto made another suggestion. Members, who see a Jag for sale, at a dealership or other car lot, could place a postcard in the car offering a one year membership to the Club. Show and Shine: Gary Dyer suggested an informal precursor to Hot August Nights might be a show and shine of European or foreign cars. Dave Minedew got a list of 38 car clubs from Harrah’s Auto Collection representatives. Charles Manchester felt that it should be limited to only British cars. Sam Dibitanto proposed selecting a date, then finding a suitable venue. Locations suggested were: the Auto Museum, RSCVA, Rancho San Rafael, and the Pavilion at 4th and Lake Street. Sam Dibitanto thought they might be able to acquire the Pavilion for expenses only (i.e, utilities); then get sponsors to cover those costs. Randy Wright proposed that a park might be a better setting. Treasurer’s Report: Dave Minedew reported that the account is up by $567 over last year. There is $1,585 is in the Village Green account, and $3,812 in the general operating account. Membership chair Harry Keast said that dues should be paid by the end of February. The need for an accurate roster was emphasized, and the largest problem he has encountered is inaccurate e-mail addresses. Social Directors Kathy and Mike Glass reported that monthly raffles will be held. They are working on road trips to Volcano and McCloud, BBQ’s at local parks, and progressive dinners. Patti Wilder concluded the meeting by noting that a near record 40 people attended the first dinner of the year.
