Charlie & Carolyn Manchester's

Annual

Bar-B-Q/Meeting

The Lunch

Thank you, Carolyn and Charlie for hosting once again this fun Barbecue at your home at Lake Tahoe.   You did such a nice job setting up the site for the Reno Jaguar Club.  The shaded lawn area with all the tables nicely spread out with table clothes and chairs were so inviting.  The covered area where we served ourselves to the hamburgers and hot dogs and the side dishes that the members brought was well organized.  The RJC wants to thank your son-in-law for his expertise at the grill!  Another thank you to all the RJC members who brought their delicious side dishes.

The weather was perfect as well.  We could not have picked a better day.  Twenty-nine members were present.  It was quite a sight for the neighbors to see our treasures parked up and down the road.  Makes them wish they had a Jaguar too!

The Meeting

Gary Dyer, our RJC President, started off the meeting side of this lunch/meeting by thanking everyone for a successful "A Day on the Village Green".  He shared with the club all the praise that he received from our out of state contestants. He said that they said that the Concours was one of the best they had ever been too and that all of our members were so friendly and helpful.  Way to go RJC!!!

The Hello's

He also welcomed our newest members:

Anita & Harry Hart

Allan & Ingegerd Lum

Welcome to our Reno Jaguar Club Family!

The Goodbye's

This was a bittersweet day for Lynne & Larry Lenker and the RJC.  Seven years ago Lynne and Larry came to their very first RJC dinner/meeting. They were guest of Pat and Harry Keast. This dinner/meeting was at the Manchester's home.  They were so impressed with the club that they signed up to be members right then and there.

Lynne has been a past Social Director and did a fabulous job. Larry was our fearless leader a few years ago who also did a wonderful job for the RJC. These two were always helping out the club any way they could.

At this BBQ/meeting, again at the Manchester's, Lynne and Larry said their good-byes to the RJC. They have sold their home in Reno and are heading to their new home near the Oregon coast.

We hope you have great new adventures but please don't forget us. Once you are a member of the RJC family, you will always be a member in our hearts.

Larry and Lynne please come back and visit us whenever you can.  You will be missed!

The August Progressive Dinner

Mike Glass, our RJC Social Director, mentioned that the next dinner/meeting will be our 3rd Annual Progressive Dinner.  He is in need of volunteers to host the various courses of this dinner at their homes.  Mike can be contacted at: jaguarmike@sbcglobal.net  or 626-0458

An Exciting Trip!

Patti Wilder, the RJC Vice President, was beaming from the moment she got to the Barbecue and couldn't wait to share her news! She told the group that she had a trip in the making that promises to be as fun or even MORE exciting then our RJC trip to Jay Leno's "Tonight Show" and his famous Car Museum!  She has been working with a travel agent and together they propose a trip, it is being called:

For the Drive of Your Life!
Self Drive Auto Tour in Europe

September 2008

 How it works:
(Written by Cynthia Longhof, Vacations Sales Specialist)

"The itinerary is custom designed to include varied types of driving from high-speed autobahns, country roads, challenging Alpine drives and scenic byways.  The tour includes sightseeing where you choose to visit.  There are fabulous auto museums and some small private ones where the group will be hosted.  Possible attendance by or with local car clubs, visit to Hockenheim race track and possible drive the track time.  The itinerary is arranged to have at least 2 night stays at each location.

Cars are rentals, pre-selected from our list of available cars.  Tour rates are based on car selection and if you want 2-4 people riding in one car.  There will be a chart to select from with the rates cars ranging from midsize to premium size. Some Specialty cars will be possible for higher rates!

Hotels selected are hand picked to include castle hotels, historical properties with great restaurants, antiques and the local traditions, all first class and moderate deluxe.  Buffet breakfast would be included daily.  Dinner beverages would not be included except in a couple locations. Gourmet dinners are included on the first night of arrival in each location, 2nd night is on your own or I can arrange special dinners ‘Dutch treat’.

Routes are planned to allow time to explore the area without driving all day every day (unless you want to see how many km you can add to the car).  There will be a variety of awesome scenery and areas that most people have not experienced.

Travel details, good daily maps of the region and tour info will be provided.  At breakfast the area is discussed to answer questions on sightseeing etc will be offered.  The basic itinerary will include mileage and driving time from A to B giving you ideas of how much time you have to explore, shop, drive, hike, etc.

Areas planned would include Germany-Black Forest and Bavaria; France-Alsace; Switzerland-passing through; Austria-Vorarlberg Region; Italy-Sudtirol.  The Alps and Dolomites will be appreciated by all!  There are unexplored castles, yes ladies- shopping-

Private wine tasting, sampling of hundreds of brews, desserts and great local cuisine.

Airfare would be included in the tour price.  If you wish to use mileage programs then you can get a land only rate.

Estimated tour for Mid September 2008 lasting 12 days."

The proposed cost of this trip will start at around $3,500/each and will go up in price by the type of car you choose to drive.

The maximum for this tour is twenty people.

Patti had a sign up sheet for the members present.  Members were asked to put their name in one of the four categories: Not Interested, Interested, Very Interested, Sign Me Up NOW!

To her shock she had 21 people choose "Sign Me Up NOW!" with 9 others who are "Very Interested".  This is with JUST the members present at this lunch/meeting!

Patti is very concerned because there were many members who were not able to attend this RJC function who might very well want to go too.  She will talk with Cynthia and see if it is possible to make room for everyone who wants to go. Maybe two tours of twenty people can be arranged?  Patti will send out an email to all when she gets an answer.  The response to this trip was overwhelming!!!

The meeting was adjourned and our awesome members helped Carolyn and Charlie clean up.
