Reno Jaguar Club Thank you Rex and Dixie for finding such a fun place for our monthly dinner meeting! The Red's Old 395 Grill in Carson City was incredible. I do not know when I have seen so much food at one time. We felt like we were at some mid-evil King's banquet. All this food for only $20.00 (which included tax and tip) was incredible. The private room was perfect. All 40 members could sit comfortably with room to spare. Check out the wagons hanging on the ceiling in one of the following pictures. We will surely go back to this restaurant for another RJC event! After this scrumptious dinner Larry Richardson, our RCJ President, opened the meeting part of this dinner/meeting. He started by introducing our newest members, Shirlee and Dave Taylor - WELCOME! He then proceeded to thank our evenings host and hostess, Rex and Dixie Black…again thank you. Randy Wright, club founder, spoke about an upcoming event called "Celtic Days". This will be on October 5 - 7, 2008. This was a huge event last year and wants our club to grace them with our jaguars again this year. Larry handed the floor over to Mike Glass, our 'Roving Reporter', who spoke about the event earlier that day in Reno, the Auotexotica/Classic Car Event. He said that the RJC made a nice showing with five Jaguars in attendance along with Ferrari's, Lamborghinis, Mercedes and other exotic cars. He mentioned that member, Tony Mitchell, came with one Ferrari then went home and brought another one! He also went on to talk about Eurosunday/Driven2Drive that was going to happen the following day. (Please go to www.Eurosunday/Driven2Drive.org to learn more about this). Mike also spoke about the Western States Meet in Grand Junction Colorado. He said it was not too late to register to go. He thanked members, Charlie and Carolyn Manchester, for doing such a great job representing the RJC at these events and for their outstanding awards that are displayed in the JCNA Jaguar Magazine. Larry spoke about the upcoming Europe trip. He mentioned that there were a few more openings and that it was not too late to sign up. Please review this on our webpage at: http://renojaguarclub.com/trips/europe2008/europe2008.htm. RJC Member, Bob Parshall, spoke about problems that arise with our jaguars such as the determination of the thermostat housings. He said the Welks Company in Cleveland Ohio has replacements for $70.00. Bob also said, among other valuable information, that the rod bearings and main bearings were made to be thrown away. He said that on a 4 liter engine 95% had to be replaced. Bob got most of his information out of the magazine "Jaguar World". Discussion was contributed by members, Ron Pizer and Tony Mitchell among others. Patti Wilder, RJC VP, spoke about the previous RJC trip to San Francisco sponsored by Jeff and Sherron Egner. We are hoping to repeat this next year! She also introduced to the club another trip also sponsored by the Egner's , which would be a weekend in Washington California. This trip will be on August 22 - 23, 2008. This will be a fun filled weekend of swimming in the Yuba river and/or going on a four hour adventure hike to five lakes on the Grouse Ridge Trail. If you are interested you need to make reservations ASAP at the Washington Hotel as rooms are limited . Here is a link to the hotel: http://www.washingtonhotel.net/. The phone number to make reservations is: (530) 265-4364. Mike Glass asked about the proposed Driving/Wine tour to Calaveras county. Patti apologized for not having this ready. She said that she had been doing a lot of traveling and wasn’t able to get this organized. Patti recognized the following June birthdays and anniversary for our club members. Birthdays: Anniversary: Special Recognition: The RJC gave a card and special recognition to Iain Buxton for his award he received from UNR for "2008's Most Outstanding Researcher" Here is an excerpt from the Reno Gazette Journal: UNR honors researcher as 'best' The University of Nevada, Reno recognized the School of Medicine's Iain L.O. Buxton, Pharm.D., with its Outstanding Researcher Award at its annual "Honor the Best" awards ceremony held recently at the Joe Crowley Student Union. Buxton was honored for his research efforts in the areas of premature birth and breast cancer metastasis. The award is given by a committee comprised of past award recipients and recognizes outstanding research achievements of international stature. Iain's name will also be placed in granite as a permanent reminder of his contribution to the world. Way to go Iain!!! Mike Glass made an announcement praising our webmaster, Rich
Wilder, for his outstanding contributions to our clubs webpage. He went on
to say that other clubs have commented on what a professional webpage the RJC
has. He also thanked Rich for the speed in which he updates the webpage
with events and notices. Iain Buxton brought samples of the badge he is working on for the RJC 25th Anniversary. He had many samples for the club to review. He said the badges would be pounded out of brass with chrome edges with an enamel center. He said that jaguar badges have value. He said there are a lot of collectors who desire these. He went on to say that this is not the reason for our club badge. This badge is to celebrate the RJC's 25th anniversary. He is in the process of getting bids for production. He asked for a show of hands as who would be interested in purchasing one of these badges so he could tell if this as a 'go' or not. Many members raised their hands so it looks like he will proceed with this research. It was mentioned by Larry Richardson that club pins would be made as well. He said that these pins would be fun to trade with other clubs. Samples of Iain's Designs:
There was also a silent auction. Items auctioned off were:
