Reno Jaguar Club Dinner Meeting
April, 9, 2009
Coney Island Bar & Grill

Dinner:

Thirty six hungry RJC members met for dinner at the Coney Island Bar and Grill. Our awesome hosts for this dinner were Sunny & Dave Minedew.  The Coney Island Bar and Grill was established in 1927 when it was first a tamale factory and is still run by the same family.  The food was excellent and plentiful! The members were seated in a  horse-shoe arrangement which made for easy conversation. Food was served family style. Everyone was treated to a green salad with house dressing, roasted chicken, tri-tip, asparagus raviolis in a lemon cream sauce with bread pudding for dessert and not to forget bottles of red wine were placed on the tables for all to share.

Meeting:

  • Mike Glass, the 2009 RJC President, opened the meeting by thanking Sunny & Dave Minedew for arranging and organizing this delicious dinner/meeting.
  • Mike read a letter to the group from Washoe County. The letter was thanking the RJC  for the "Families of Washoe County" who received our donated gifts we donated to the children at the Children's Cabinet last Christmas.  The letter went on to say that we were an "example of what Christmas is all about".  They thanked us for our generous contribution.
  • Mike was reminding members to buy their RJC shirts ASAP because he wants to place one large order instead of many small orders.
  • Mike reminded the club that we still have many RJC 25th anniversary badges for sale and encouraged all members to buy at least one or more of these badges to celebrate this monumental achievement.
  • Mike reminded members of the upcoming Tech Session at Gary Dyers Auto Storage Building in Stead on May 2, 2009 at 9:00 AM.  Patti Wilder spoke telling the ladies of the RJC that the "Body Party"planned for them on the same day was cancelled due to the "Body Shop Home Parties" were being discontinued.   She thanked Wendy Buxton for volunteering to host this party and was sorry that it was cancelled. Patti mentioned a possibility of the ladies going to the musical Menopause instead.
  • Mike Johnson gave an update on the "A Day on the Village Green" (ADVG).  He said this event will be on August, 1, 2009. He has fliers for other clubs to attend but has held off sending them until he heard what was happening with the Cal-Neva Bankruptcy issue. The Cal Neva was put up on auction on April 9, 2009 with no bidders. Mike then learned that the hotel casino will still be operating in August and our event will go on as planned. He plans to send out the fliers ASAP to other clubs.
Mike went on to say that we will have a JCNA sponsored slalom this year. This was something the RJC did 15 years ago at Lawlor.  He said that John Wittrig had the 2nd fastest time with his fire extinguisher going off causing smoke to come out of his boot!
Mike also said that rooms are available for the event at Cal-Neva. The prices will be the same as last year; $129 for Executive Rooms.
  • Mike Glass stated that we need volunteers for this event. He said some of the positions that need to be filled are:  Registration, Parking Supervisors, Slalom organizers, judges and other positions. He said he will announce shortly a lunch meeting for all people who are interested in helping.
  • Mike Glass said he will be going to a SCCA meeting in May to learn about slalom procedures and to figure out how to borrow timing gear
  • It was proposed that we include British Motorcycles to the "ADVG".
  • Ron Pizer brought to our attention that the British Car Club is sponsoring a ride to Wellington Nevada:

What: Jag/Brit car run to the Heyday Inn in Wellington for lunch
When: Saturday April 11.
Where: (Reno members) Meet at 8:45AM at Terrible's at the corner of Longley & S. Virginia. (Carson City members) Meet at 10:00AM at the Target on Jacks Valley Road and 395
How:  Just show up - no RSVP's necessary!

  • It was asked if we were going to combine our "ADVG" with the Sacramento club. It was decided to just keep it "in-house". We are not going to pursue lots of raffle or donated prizes. This would take up lots of time
  • Gerard Garra, the RJC Chief Judge said he would be hosting the 1st Judges meeting at 12:00 Noon at Gary Dyer's Auto Storage Shop right after the Tech Session on May 2nd.  He will teach volunteers what to look for in cars and to update everyone on new rules.
  • Mike Johnson encouraged members who were knowledgeable in Jaguars to volunteer to become judges in the "driven class" as a starting point. He said judging is not too difficult.
  • Mike Glass said he was going to advertise the "ADVG" in Hemmings Motor News
  • The Historic Races will be in Fernley in May. Mike Glass reminded members that last year and several years prior we got discounted tickets and were able to park and show off our Jaguars in the paddock.
  • Treasurer Dave Minedew gave the RJC treasury report. He said our club was still solvent. There is $3,355 in the operating fund and $1,195 in "ADVG" account
  • Harry Keast gave the Membership report. He said that the current roster is up-to-date.
  • Dave Minedew proposed having a library kept at his home on manuals and books for the XJS. He requested members who had any of such items to donate them to this library. All members will be able to borrow these books and manual at no cost.  John Wittrig said he had volumes of literature on the XJS.
  • Tony Mitchell announced the next dinner meeting will be on the second Friday in May, (May 8, 2009) at the 19th Hole.
  • Tony Mitchell also told the club that Pat Campbell recently fell and hit her head. He said he believed she was alright but requested members call her and cheer her up.
  • Mike Glass recognized special days for our members:
    Dave Minedew's Birthday
    Terry Mitchell's Birthday
    Julie Pizer's March Birthday
    Terry and Tony Mitchell's Anniversary
    Mike and Sue Johnson's Anniversary
Mike and Kathy Glasses 10th Anniversary
Shirley and Dave Roberts 35th Anniversary
  • Patti Wilder announced the good news that Rex and Dixie Black's grandson may be drafted by the New York Yankees!
  • John Wittrig mentioned that there was a 2007, XJ8, for sale. The original price was $72,000 and the asking price is $17,500! It is powder blue with 60K miles. It is located in Carlsbad, California
  • John also went on to say that according to the JD Powers, the Jaguar & Buick were the 2008 Most Reliable cars. They replaced the Lexus!
