Oktoberfest at the Dyer's On October 17, 2009 forty two Reno Jaguar members showed up for the Oktoberfest RJC dinner/meeting which was hosted by Kathy & Gary Dyer at their home in Saddlehorn, Reno, Nevada. What a celebration it was! This gathering started a bit earlier than usual at 4:00PM. The Dyer's have a beautiful home and wanted members to have the opportunity to take in the scenic view of the Sierra Nevada by having cocktails in their backyard before the dinner which was held in their spacious garage. This is no ordinary "garage". This garage has a fireplace with a seating area, a Jukebox which was playing German/Bavarian Polka music. Five round tables were set up each with a minimum of eight place settings. Kathy and Gary had a bar area with wine and coffee set up along with a food buffet. The menu was delicious! Kathy made her family's secret recipe for sauerkraut with shredded pork. Also served was green salad with barrel aged balsamic & Meyer lemon olive oil, barbecued ribs and brisket, mashed potatoes, green beans with butter and almonds. As if that wasn't enough, apple strudel with ice cream was served for dessert! The meeting was started after everyone had a sufficient amount of food and drink. Our President, Mike Glass, started the meeting by thanking Gary & Kathy Dyer for the EXCELLENT job in setting all of this up and for all the work it took to make this so fun and pleasant. A round of applause erupted and took several moments for it to die down. Mike stated that the next dinner/meeting will be on November 20, 2009 at the Bricks restaurant in Reno. This dinner/meeting will be sponsored by Iain and Wendy Buxton. We will be in a private room. Mike went on to say the December Christmas party will be at the Genoa Lake's Golf Course on December 5, 2009. Another round of applause was released by many club members. Mike said that this Christmas party was well into the planning stage. Mike said that our "Treasury has money in it"...Our treasurer Dave Minedew had to leave before the meeting started to get back to his camp site! He and his wife, Sunny, were camping out at Pyramid Lake but took time out to come to our RJC dinner! Mike opened up discussion to the RJC members. George Tabor mentioned that on October 24th, the Spanish Springs High School Band along with Gilson Autobody, (Glendale Blvd, just east of GSR), will be hosting a charity fundraising event to help the Cougar Band get to Disneyland this Spring (see the announcement.) 100% of all money earned will go to the Cougar band. All cars are welcome. There will be a car show, jazz, drums and the guard will perform. No cost to come and look. $20 per car to enter, $1 per raffle ticket. Patti Wilder spoke to the group explaining that to the disappointment to many members at the last dinner meeting they were unable to hear what our guest speaker and member, Bob Paschal, had to say. She said that due to the noise of another party near our club meeting and for the fact that Bob did not have a microphone it was difficult to hear what he had to say. Bob wanted to let the RJC know about his privilege to attend the Concours d'Elegance at Pebble Beach and he was the guest of some very important, famous people. Bob had a poster board with many pictures that he took and wanted to share. It was mentioned that if Bob could make it to the next dinner meeting all would love to hear of his adventures and knowledge of the new Jaguar that he was privy to see. Patti also went on to say that it would be nice if members would discuss more things relevant to our cars. She said if any members were having issues with their cars and/or found out something interesting about their car or Jaguars in general, it would be nice to talk about these at the dinner/meetings. She mentioned that Tony and Debby Fakonas are working on some club tech sessions that should happen between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Mike Glass gave recognition to all members who had birthday's this month. They were: Iain Buxton, Terrie Mitchell, Kathy Glass, Rich Wilder and Dixie Black. Gary Dyer mentioned that there will be an SCCA sponsored auto cross at the Stead Airport. There will be a slalom as well. This will be on Oct 24 - 25, 2009
Mike Glass reminded the club that at the November meeting will also be election night and encouraged any and all members to step up to the plate and volunteer to run for a position on the board. He stated that we need volunteers and that we needed to give the past board member's a break. There was a silent auction this night as well. Items up for auction were donated by Kathy Glass and Patti Wilder. $161.00 was brought into the clubs treasury from the proceeds of this auction... Way to GO! Kathy Dyer let the members know that there were "doggy bags" available with the left overs for any member wanting to take some home. Once again Mike Glass thanked the Dyer's for hosting this fun October RJC dinner/meeting. Mike Glass adjourned the meeting.
