November 13, 2010
Carson Valley Country Club
Gardnerville, NV

On a crisp and brisk Fall evening at the Carson Valley Country Club, we were greeted by hosts Belmont and Joan Reid. The event was well-attended with the Club occupying a private dining room with long, festive, tables dressed in red-checkered table-cloths. According to Belmont, this quaint old place has been a favorite meeting and watering spot for the State's politicos and movers-and-shakers for many years. It's probably just as well that walls can't talk. Social time was enjoyed over Picon punches and glasses of wine. Mike and Sue's daughter, Alyse, accompanied her parents and was a welcome guest. We then tucked in to a sumptuous meal of traditional Basque fare including a delicious stew of tongue, beans, salad, french fries, salmon, steak and lamb chops, along with red wine, then ice cream for dessert. What a feast with lively and spirited conversation... who could ask for more?

President George was unavoidably absent due to an inconvenient and unpleasant bug. We trust he is feeling better by now and we'll see him next time. Vice-President Patti brought the business portion of the meeting to order.

Patti welcomed everyone including our guest, and thanked Belmont & Joan Reid for setting up and organizing this dinner/meeting.

Items discussed included:

  • The upcoming RJC Christmas party at Genoa Lakes Golf Club on Dec 4, at 6:00 pm. Gerard tells us there will be a gift exchange among members, to be done in a fun and creative way. The gifts should be for "couples" and not to exceed $20.00. We will, as usual, bring gifts for The Children's Cabinet. Mike Glass will have his truck available to accept food donations for Evelyn Mount's Community Outreach.

  • 2011 A Day on the Village Green: Mike Glass continues to work on plans, date and location are yet to be confirmed.

[It was revealed that Patti celebrated her birthday the prior day, so the Club broke in to a rousing chorus of Happy Birthday to You, while Gary administered a few (mock) congratulatory spanks.]

Patti asked for volunteers to choose a month in 2011 to host the monthly dinner meeting:

  • January-- Wilder

  • February-- Glass

  • March-- Keast

  • April-- Fuetsch

  • May-- Dyer

  • June-- Minedew

  • July--Buxton

  • August-- Garra

  • September-- Pizer

  • October-- Smith

  • November-- Black

  • December-- To be determined

November is annual officers elections month. The following were nominated and elected by voice vote:

  • President: George Tabor until June

  • Vice-President: Belmont Reid and Gary Dyer

  • Treasurer: Dave Minedew

  • Secretary: Wendy Buxton

  • Membership: Kathy Dyer and Harry Keast

  • Concours Chair: Mike Glass

A proposal to change the meeting night to Saturday was made by a show of hands. This will be discussed once again at the January meeting.

There being no further old or new business for discussion, the meeting was adjourned.

The members thanked Belmont and Joan for arranging such an enjoyable, and filling, evening! It was said by many, that we now appreciate the drive that our southern area members make to Reno most months. We all agreed it was well-worth the trip!
