A special meeting was held
to consider plans for a Day on the Village Green.
Membership Dues
Harry Keast indicated that
a number of members have not paid their dues. A proposal
was made and approved by a 5 to 4 vote that a late fee of $10
should be added to the dues if they are not paid by January
31st, effective in 2008. This will be taken to the
February 2007 dinner meeting for consideration.
Day on the Village Green
Mike Johnson requested
that the Board meet, as the event is rapidly approaching, and
decisions need to be made. He has done a lot of research
into venues for the event both in Reno and surrounding areas,
based on the following criteria: That there be good public
exposure, a bit of class, and the ability to draw people from
outside the area to the event.
His recommendation is to
hold the event at the Club Cal Neva at Lake Tahoe. It
would be held in the valet parking lot with security provided.
There are trees in the surrounding area, a circle bar with a
view of the lake where a welcome cocktail party could be held, a
pool, and executive rooms will be available for $129 per night.
Davy Jones was proposed as a possible speaker, and the racecar
he drove, that is in the Harrah’s Auto Collection, might be
available for display at the event. Inviting vendors to
sell items such as hats and chairs was also suggested.
Suggestions for a schedule
of events were: a Friday night welcome cocktail party, judging
to be held on Saturday, a banquet on Saturday night and possibly
charter a boat for brunch/lunch at Sunnyside on Sunday morning.
Committees will be need to
be formed for advertising, trophies, organizing the event,
judging, parking, parade security, marketing, raffle host,
registration, guest speaker, etc.
Mike distributed copies of
a tentative contract with the Cal Neva. The cost to hold
the event will be $750. Additional funds will be required
for new trophies, advertising, etc. Mike will look at the
costs, to determine what the registration costs will need to be.
The current balance in the Village Green account is $1,500.
As time is of the essence,
a motion was made by Dave Minedew that the event be held at the
Cal Neva. Mike Glass seconded it. The Board vote was
unanimous (with one abstention) and the motion was passed.
Other business
Patti Wilder suggested
that Board members clear any correspondence regarding the Club
through President Gary Dyer prior to sending it out.
A sample paddle with RJC
club information, which could be “flashed” while members are
driving their Jags was made by Patti Wilder. She suggested
a possible craft night for members to make their own.
Rich Wilder has
recommended a change in the RJC web site from .ws to .com which
will provide additional space at a reduced cost of $3.57/month.
Two years advance payment was required. The Board agreed
to this change.
Meeting adjourned at 8:00.
