Chief Judge Gerard Garra

All officers were present.  Other RJC members in attendance were Pat Keast and Kathy Dyer.

President Patti Wilder called the meeting to order.  She submitted a proposed mission statement for the club.  It was reviewed by officers and an addendum was proposed.  The following statement will be placed on the RJC web site:

Reno Jaguar Club Mission Statement

  • To further the interest in the ownership and possession of the Jaguar automobile

  • To promote favorable relationships with the general public

  • To be a technical guidepost to Jaguar owners

  • To be a social organization

  • To exchange ideas

  • To promote and demonstrate driving proficiency and safe driving habits in accordance with the laws of the state of Nevada

  • To obtain the best possible technical advice and literature from the factory and other available service sources for use by all the members

  • To enhance our community and be involved in charity functions as a way to get our name more well known; i.e., parades/events

Board Meetings

It was decided to hold future Board meetings on a quarterly basis, with additional meetings called as needed.  The Board may also meet by Internet, if the need arises.

Meeting protocol

The President suggested that each Board member give a brief report on areas related to his/her position.

Treasurer Dave Minedew reported that there is $1,585 in the Village Green Account and $3,812 in operating.

Membership Chair Harry Keast noted that dues notices have been sent out, and he would like all dues paid by the end of February.  There are five members in the club without  e-mail.  He expressed the need to keep the roster up to date with current e-mail addresses and other information, as JCNA requires this information.

President Wilder presented her goals as president for the coming year.

1)     Put the “Meeting” back into RJC dinner/MEETING

2)     Put Car back into Reno Jaguar CAR Club

3)     Double membership!

She distributed an agenda for discussion by the Board.

·       How can we incorporate more CAR related themes at the dinner meetings

It was agreed that in the future, a JAG meeting will be held in conjunction with each monthly dinner.

In order to familiarize newer members, all members will  introduce themselves and their cars at each dinner/meeting.

The dinner meetings will include 3-4  people who will talk to the group about their car,  perhaps bringing a photo of the car to show other members.

Bring in speakers for the dinner meetings.  Two speakers were suggested:  John from A Sport House, and the sales manager from the Jag dealership in Sacramento.  Gary Dyer will call the latter and try to schedule him for the March dinner meeting.

·       How to get new members to join the club

Suggestions included

Expanding the “Tag a Jag” concept.  Add the RJC web site to the postcard and leave a place for the initials of the club member who tagged the Jag.  The member who has the most responses for the month would receive a free dinner.  Included on the postcard will be a statement that states that being a member of the club entitles one to limited discounts on car parts and accessories at selected dealers.  We hope this will enticement them to join. (Members also receive free admission to Harrah’s Auto Museum.)

A decal or bumper sticker could be printed and displayed on members’ Jags.  Suggestions included:  “Follow me to a Reno Jaguar Club meeting,” along with the Web site address.

Flyers could be placed in businesses such as auto dealers and posted on grocery store bulletin boards.

Members could offer politicians and dignitaries the opportunity to ride in their cars during parades.  A RJC banner could be placed on the car to promote the club.

If a member brings a potential member to a dinner meeting, they would both receive a free drink.

Place a notice in the local newspaper.  This has been done in the past, and was submitted several weeks ago for the January dinner.  Although the RGJ has been unresponsive to date, further attempts will be made.

  • Suggestions for Dinners/Events/Trips

It was agreed that generally, the dinners should continue to be scheduled on the 2nd Friday of each month, with possible exceptions.

All felt that monthly dinners should be held at various locations throughout the year, rather than in the same place every time.  In addition to restaurants and members’ homes, service organizations such as the Rotary Club might be explored for sites to have a catered dinner.

The date and location of the February dinner is yet to decided.  The March dinner will be held at the Sienna.  Possibly a couple of theme dinners such as a Luau or Mexican could be hosted by members in their homes, with a few members assisting in preparation.

A calendar of meetings and events would be helpful so members can put them on their calendars in advance.

The Social Directors will coordinate a raffle or auction to be held at each dinner.  Donated gift certificates were suggested as possible items for bid.

Raffle profits could be used to cater a dinner or BBQ for members once a year, either at a member’s home, park or other location, or after a Tech session.  A separate accounting process will be used for raffle funds.
Note:  it is appropriated that any RJC funds spent should be only in areas that are of potential benefit to every member.

A Tech session was proposed to be held in the next few months, when the weather is warmer.

  • Questionnaire for members

A review was made of the questions that Patti Wilder developed for last year’s questionnaire, and which are appropriate for inclusion at the January meeting.  In connection with this, she asked for input regarding whether to have a Day on the Village Green this year.  A suggestion to connect with other car clubs for a group event to be held in Reno was made.   Dave Minedew and Gary Dyer volunteered to get a list of other car clubs in the area.  It was also brought up that there would have to be a member or members who could commit a great deal of time to coordinate such an event.

  • T-shirts

Patti will provide information on a great deal that Mike & Kathy Glass found on the internet for RJC T-shirts.   Information for ordering and payment will be given at the January meeting.

  • Advertising on the RJC web site

A request was made by a new business called “The Driven Man” to advertise on the web site.  A charge of $10/month was proposed.  This would also cover the cost of maintaining the site.  There is no charge for members to place an ad.

·       News from other clubs

Information will be distributed at the January meeting.

The meeting adjourned at 1:30.
