Board Meeting Notes
Saturday 6, 2009
11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Board Members present:
Mike Glass - President
Larry Richardson - Vice President
Mike Johnson - ADVG Director
Harry Keast - Membership
Patti Wilder - Assistant Secretary
Kathy Glass
The JCNA wants to turn over membership to the
individual clubs. Harry Keast thought this was a great idea because
what was happening was that when people signed up through the JCNA we
never knew about them and lost potential members.
Mike Glass sent out emails to all west coast Jaguar
club presidents. His request was for these club presidents to notify
their members of our "A Day On The Village Green" and to ask them to
join in the fun. He has gotten three responses so far. The replies
were from the Jaguar Clubs of San Francisco, Sacramento and San Diego.
These presidents said they would let their webmasters know and put this
information on their webpages. So far the Sacramento club has responded
and is willing to have 4 - 5 of their members volunteer to help the RJC
.
Mike Glass had some fliers from the JCNA. He wants
to distribute these to the Sacramento Club. Patti Wilder said she would
get the Reno Jaguar Club fliers completed ASAP.
Gerard Garra, not present but message was relayed
to the club by a call from Lola, said that we had 6 registrations so
far. Mike Johnson said that this was a good number for this early in
registration.
Mike Johnson will go to the Cal-Neva Resort
personally to see if it is in operation. Harry Keast mentioned he went
by it recently and it looked closed. The parking lot was nearly empty.
The new sales manager for the Cal-Neva Resort is Cynthia Langhoff.
Mike Glass commented on good well the BBQ was two
years ago at the last "A Day on the Village Green". He stated that
owners of the Jaguars in the show did not want to leave their cars to go
into the restaurant to eat and therefore were very pleased to have a BBQ
near their cars to get their food. Mike Johnson also liked this idea
but said he would like to see the food upgraded a bit by offering
Tri-tip. Kathy Glass mentioned shredded pork sandwiches would also be
good.
Mike Johnson will be ordering trophies soon. He
said we had enough 2nd and 3rd place trophies but needed to buy more
crystal 1st place trophies. He said trophies may cost close to $1,200.
According to Mike Johnson the cost of the banquet
room will be $400, $300 cheaper than the last "ADVG". Dinner will be
$48.00 a person.
Patti Wilder asked how this "ADVG" was being
advertised. Mike Glass said it was in the Hemmings Motor News. Harry
Keast said he would let the Triumph club know and Mike Johnson said he
would let the MG car club know.
It was discussed how to bring multiple vehicles to
this event. It is a problem for members with multiple vehicles to get
them to the car show. Mike Glass suggested that we have a committee to
figure this out. He suggested we do a van pool. He said that members
could drive up their car, get in the van for a ride back to Reno, pick
up another of their vehicles and so forth.
Harry Keast said he would be in charge of the car
parking.
Jim Alder's name was brought up. He owns a
fabulous 150 Jaguar. We were hoping that he would bring his car for
display.
Patti Wilder was asked to contact former Jaguar
race car driver Davy Jones to be our guest speaker at the awards
banquet. It was agreed that the RJC would pay for his hotel stay and
his dinner at the banquet.
Also mentioned was that we needed more 'runners'
this year. It was suggested that we invite Hagerty Car Insurance
employees and ask them to be runners.
Members were worried that the "Hot August Nights"
would be in conflict to our "A Day on the Village Green". But it was
discovered that the two events do not overlap. Also mentioned was
inviting XKs Unlimited to come. Mike Johnson said in the past they
weren't interested because we were too small of a group but he went on
to say since "Hot August Nights" was the following week they just might
come.
Mike Glass previously sent an email to the board
members letting them know that George Tabor was in a Celtic band and
that this would be a great to have at our meet. The cost would be
around $500.00 for this band. Mike said he would talk with George and
see if we could work a deal to lower the price. A vote is pending on
this.
Having fairer judging was mentioned. Patti Wilder
suggested that we have another volunteer check over the scoring sheets
to be sure that one or more judges weren't grading to hard. Mike
Johnson said that only one certified judge is required on each team.
The number of teams will be left up to Gerard Garra -Chief Judge.
Mike Johnson and George Tabor are working on the
slalom that will take place on Sunday, August 2, 2009. The slalom will
be at the upper parking lot of Slide Mountain. This area will be big
enough to host this event. The cost of renting this area will be $500
for the day. There will be additional cost for the slalom such as
port-a- potties, liability rider and trophies. Mike said the total cost
should be around $700.00. The entry fee will be $15.00 per vehicle.
Mike also said there would be a PA system for this
event. According to Mike the SCCA will allow us to use their timing
gear. These will be manual timers that use light interruption. He
went on to say that the SCCA is not interested in helping us out on this
day because they are "tired out", referring to all the events that they
do. Mike said that maybe in the near future and if the club enjoys the
slalom, that the RJC may be able to purchase these timing machines at a
fraction of the cost from the SCCA.
Mike Johnson relayed a message from member, Bob
Parschall, that there should be an area for instruction before people
did the slalom. They would learn straight line breaking and dog
legging.
Mike Johnson stated that drivers were to bring
their own helmets but also said that he had 4 - 6 helmets that drivers
could use. Drivers will be allowed 3 - 4 runs. We are expecting 30 -
40 entries in this slalom event.
The set up for this event will be at 9:00 AM,
Sunday, August 2, 2009. Discussion to have a BBQ with hamburgers and
hot dogs and other foods was brought up. It was proposed that members
bring pot luck items to this. Patti Wilder stated that this could
possibly be a health issue due to the fact that many RJC members would
be spending the night at Lake Tahoe so that the food that was prepared
ahead of time would be in coolers for more than 24 - 48 hours which
could present a problem with food going bad.
This ADVG is also open to all British cars and
motorcycles. The objective is to stimulate more interest to our event
and to the public.
More topics:
Garage Sale: It was discovered that the
Saddlehorn's annual garage sale that the RJC participated in last year
has come and gone. Patti suggested maybe we could participate in Hidden
Valley's annual garage sale. Are there any members who live in Hidden
Valley who would let us use their property?
Car Wash: Mike & Kathy Glass thought it would be
fun to earn money for the club by having an RJC sponsored car wash.
Weekend at the Museum: To try to promote the RJC
and get more members Harry Keast suggested that the RJC bring their cars
for a show and shine at Automobile museum in Reno.
Webmaster: Mike Johnson stated that our webmaster,
Rich Wilder, was doing an incredible job. He said we had one, if not
the best, website in all the JCNA. He went on to say that Rich was
amazing by the way he had all the club information up almost
instantaneously.
