*Problem with the Presidency:

Patti called this meeting due to the problem with electing a President for 2007.

She explained what had transpired at the last dinner/meeting.  She explained Debbie McMurtrey had won the vote for President with the voting members at the November dinner/meeting. After the election Debbie wasn’t sure if she wanted this job after all.  She said that she would like to wait until 2008 and run for Vice President. She said she would like to get her feet wet before just jumping in as the RJC President.

The RJC by-laws were reviewed later and it was discovered that there was not a quorum, not enough members were present when the vote at the November dinner was taken.  It was therefore decided that a ballot would be sent to all absent RJC members. Ballot votes came in via email and USPS mail.   Mike Johnson now had the most votes. Mike, who was present at the board meeting, was very flattered but said he had to decline.  His reasons were many. The main reasons were that he was in charge of the 2007, “A Day On The Village Green” and with his full time job being President also was too much.  It was also brought to our attention that you could not, again in the RJC by-laws, nominate a person who is not present.

We were back to having no President for the club for 2007.  At this point Gary Dyer stepped up and said that he would run for President and Patti Wilder said she would like to run for Vice President.  Again, according to the by-laws these positions must be voted on by a quorum of the RJC members.  A new ballot will be emailed to all members who have emails and mailed out to members who don’t have emails.  They are to agree or disagree with the members on the ballot.

Old Business:

Fernley Race Track Time:

The subject of the Fernley racetrack was brought up.  It was previously brought up at a previous meeting that it would be fun for the RJC to race their cars around the Fernley Racetrack.  It was proposed the RJC help finance the major portion of this expense.  Gerard had looked into this for the club.  It was discovered that it would be quite expensive but the real problem was that not all of the RJC could race their cars.  Convertibles were not allowed if they didn’t have a roll bar.  Early in the year the board decided that in order to spend the clubs money all members would have ton have equal opportunity to use the money.  It had to be fair to all.  Therefore this project was defeated.

Racing with the SCCA in Stead was brought up.  If all of the RJC member’s cars will be allowed then it would be possible for the club to help finance this event.  This will have to wait until next year.

The RJC Christmas Dinner Party:

Kathy Glass discussed this year’s Christmas Dinner. It will once again be at the Genoa Lakes Golf Club. She suggested those members wishing to spend the night in Genoa hurry and find a room at the local bed & breakfast.

Kathy said there was a change on the menu.  The halibut as mentioned on the Christmas invitation has been changed to salmon.  She also said that she needed an exact head count because Santa was going to come and bring presents for all members attending the dinner

New Business:

A Day on the Village Green:

The subject of the 2007, “A Day On The Village Green” was discussed.  Mike Johnson had lots of ideas for this event.  He has ALREADY started working on this.  He wants to find a new venue for this event.  He wants something “classy” with lots of exposure.  Some place where there will be a lot of foot traffic.  He is looking into Wingfield Park in Reno.  Some other places that were mentioned were, Mills Park is Carson City, Deer Park in Sparks, Rancho San Rafael in Reno and possible a street in downtown Reno, ( this was done years ago).

Charlie Manchester has also volunteered to help with this project as well as Gerard Garra, Gary Dyer, and I am sure others in the RJC.  This will be a fun and exciting event.

Patti suggested that Mike form different committees to help set this event up.  Such as, registration, sponsorships, raffles prizes, food, entertainment, judging and trophies.  Many members should be involved with the organization of this.

New trophies for this event were mentioned.

June was the month of choice.

Advertising was brought up.  Publicity for the “A Day on The Village Green” was of importance.  Newspaper write-ups were discussed, as was a possible community service TV stations running ads for the RJC.

New Members:

Gary Dyer suggested that we get gold star pins for new members.  He wants to be sure that the RJC welcomes the new members and to help them to feel part of this fun group.  He feels with the stars on the new members name tags will encourage current members to talk with them more and make them feel more comfortable.

It was also suggested that we have Greeters.  These members would be responsible for making guest and new members feel welcome at the dinners and events.

Meeting was adjourned at 1:30 PM.
