Tech Session
Scratch & Ding Repair
July 24, 2010 This past Saturday, Tony Mitchell led an information
packed session on how to repair paint flaws such as scratches, chips, gouges and
peeled areas so that the repair is, for all practical purposes, undetectable.
Tony discussed various types of paints with and without clear coats. He also
discussed the various types of products available for paint touch up, as well as
sanding and buffing products. The practice vehicle for the session was Tony's
pick-up truck, which offered a plethora of paint flaws for us to consider. After
demonstrating the proper techniques for wet sanding and power buffing, Tony
generously let the rest of us attack his truck. All participants had the
opportunity to get hands-on experience making flaws disappear. Everyone went
away with better understanding of this useful skill. Many thanks to Tony
Mitchell for leading this session and to Gary Dyer for once again letting us use
his garage.
