Pennsylvania 2008

On Friday July 18th, 2008 Mike Glass attended the Pittsburgh Jaguar Club’s kickoff banquet held at The Edgewood Country Club located just outside Pittsburgh, PA.  Mike was a guest of Mr. Scot Drab a professor at The University of Pittsburgh that just purchased Mike’s Mark II, Willow.  About 50 guests and members attended the event from the local club as well as folks from as far away as Canada.  The club made me feel very welcome.  The dinner was preceded by a social hour at the bar.  A silent auction was held to benefit the Autism Society of Pittsburgh and Allegheny Valley School for the challenged.  Many items were auctioned and the gifts were amazing.  Every guest also received a Jaguar baseball hat, a Jaguar/Land Rover pop-up umbrella, an XF Key chain, and an event program for the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix that followed the next day.

The food was first rate with a rolled stuffed chicken breast, a braised steak, a fish dish, Gnocchi, an Italian Potato dumpling, and cake and ice cream for dessert.  The night concluded with a slide show with some of the recent club events including the JCNA Associated General Meeting hosted by the Pittsburgh Club.

The following day I took three of my nephews along to The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, Schenley Park Race Weekend and the Combined Car Show.  In addition to the Western Pennsylvania Triumph Association’s British Car Day there were many other marquees on display including MG, Triumph, Rover, Austin, Morris, Morgan, Jaguar, BMW, Porsche, Mercedes, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Maserati.  Chevy, Ford, Chrysler, and many other makes totaling close to 2,000 cars were scattered across the Schenley Park Golf Course and park, one of the oldest park complexes in Western Pennsylvania.  The celebration featured many vendors, displays and food items.  The races themselves are the highlight of the show and boasts one of the only vintage events actually ran on city streets.  The racing was awesome and loud!
