Club members went on a site visit to the Cal
Neva at Crystal Bay to check out the facilities for the
upcoming Day on the Village Green, to be held June 22, 23 and 24.
During a lunch overlooking Lake Tahoe on
a beautiful day, the following items were reviewed:
Dinner Speaker
Patti
Wilder said that the guest speaker for the Saturday night dinner will be Tony
September, a well known race car driver.
Also, he has a number of old Jag manuals, which could be autographed and
auctioned off at the dinner. Gary
Dyer volunteered to conduct a live auction.
Mike Johnson has a PA system which was once
used by the club which he will bring for the banquet.
Parking Security
Although
Mike Johnson noted that there will be a security presence in the valet parking
area, Mike and Kathy Glass have two people who would be willing to watch the
cars over night in exchange for a room.
Depending on the final size of the event, it might be possible for the
hotel to provide a complementary room for them.
Raffle
Mike and Kathy Glass volunteered to check with some local
merchants to see if they would be willing to provide a few $20 lunch
certificates for a raffle. Charlie Manchester may also have some donations.
Mike Glass will have 50 goodie bags to be given to the
entrants and he also volunteered to print the dash plaques.
The DVG shirts are currently being printed.
Trophies
Mike Johnson passed around pictures of the trophies to be
awarded, which were previously approved by the Board.
Although they won’t be dated, so that some can be reused at a future
time, Mike said he will explore the possibility of sand blasting the date in for
this event. There will be trophies
for different categories. Gary Dyer
suggested a “People’s Choice” trophy.
Ten days lead time is required for ordering the trophies.
Judges Badges/Hats
Gerard Garra will look into getting badges and hats for the
judges, so they will be clearly identifiable.
Kathy Glass and Patti Wilder volunteered to help with the tabulation of
the judges’ scores.
Registration
Sunny & Dave Minedew are handling registration prior to and
during the event. Patti Wilder and
Kathy Glass also offered their assistance at the event.
Liaison
It was suggested that someone could serve as a liaison to
talk to people about their cars, where they are from, etc.
This might result in a possible video to be shown at the Christmas party.
Gary Dyer offered to be the interviewer if Sunny Minedew was willing to
be the videographer/editor. This is
still under consideration.
Sunday Drive
A Lake Tahoe driving tour
is scheduled for Sunday. It was
suggested that Peter Smith could come up with a creative idea for a route.
Mike Johnson will talk to him about this.
Walk Around the Property
The group toured the banquet room, bar and the parking lot
area. Mike Johnson is hoping to have
a sign on the marquee, and banners will be displayed for direction.
A central circular area will be used to display some of the specialty
cars.
An adjacent area was designated to photograph each car as
it arrives. Mike Glass has
volunteered to take the photos and print them on his laptop.
Wendy Buxton will look into purchasing some green indoor/outdoor
carpeting for the cars to drive on for their photo, in keeping with the “Village
Green” theme.
The registration area will be nearby under the trees.
It was suggested that British music could be played in the
parking lot area, possibly through one of the members’ satellite radio.
Other Discussion
Mike Johnson will look into the possibility of the hotel
setting up a barbeque station outside on Saturday for lunch.
Also, a suggestion to provide appetizers at the Friday night no-host bar
was made. Both of these ideas will
be considered when we have a better idea of the number of attendees.
