The Reno Jaguar Club and the Reno Historic Races
The Reno Historic Races started off the festivities by having a parade with vintage racecars drive down Virginia Street in Downtown Reno on Tuesday, May 2, 2007 in connection with a Reno celebration called, “Virginia Street Refined”.
The Reno Jaguar Club was invited to join in. All the members who had a Jaguar 1976 or older were invited to be part of the parade. We all got the “memo” on this but unfortunately the weather god did not! It turned out to be a cold, rainy, windy night! However, three brave souls from the RJC braved the weather and drove their cars in parade. They were Sam & Mina Dibitonto, Gerard Garra and Bob Melrose. For any spectators who were out in the weather saw our beautiful cars and many rare vintage cars as well.
On Saturday, May 5, 2007 the RJC went to the Reno Historic Races at the Reno-Fernley Raceway in Fernley, Nevada. Again the weather wasn’t the best but it was better than last year. Rich & Patti Wilder, Mike & Kathy Glass, Alex & Philis Evans and Gerard Garra met at the McDonald’s on Vista Blvd in Sparks, Nevada and had a caravan to the races. Rex & Dixie Black, Harry Keast and Mike Johnson met them there. We were able to go down into the pits and see the cars up close and personal. The races were exciting to watch.
Harry Keast is a friend of Tony Settember, who was a featured guest speaker at this event. Harry had previously asked Tony if he would consider being our RJC guest speaker at our “A Day on the Village Green” banquet dinner that is coming up on June 22 – 24, 2007. Patti Wilder, (me) and Harry did a follow up visit with him in the paddock to find out what his answer would be…He said “YES”. It was a great honor to meet this world famous racecar driver; (I even got his autograph).
Mike Johnson requested a board meeting to go over a few things that needed immediate attention regarding “A Day on the Village Green”. The minutes and photos can be seen on the May 2007 Minutes page.
